Privacy Policy – Spectral Vision
Effective date: July 12, 2026 · Applies to the Android app “Spectral Vision” (com.bogglingbrain.spectralvision)
1. What the app uses, and why
Spectral Vision asks for the following device capabilities. All of them are optional — the game degrades gracefully if you decline a permission.
| Capability | Used for | Where the data goes |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | The live “scanner” view; a frozen frame for scan effects and journal thumbnails; reading spirit-tether QR codes. | Stored only on your device (journal thumbnails). Never uploaded or transmitted. |
| Microphone | A live ambient-loudness level that feeds the fictional detection score. | Processed in memory as a single number. Audio is never recorded, stored, or transmitted. |
| Location | Varies the fictional world by area; tags journal entries with an approximate (~110 m) position; fetches local weather. | Stored only on your device. Coordinates rounded to roughly city scale (~11 km) are sent to the Open-Meteo weather API (see section 2). |
| Motion & light sensors, compass, battery | Fictional detection inputs and the signal-tracking mechanic. | Processed in memory. Never stored or transmitted. |
2. Network use
The app makes exactly one kind of network request: current weather conditions from Open-Meteo, a keyless public weather service. That HTTPS request contains coordinates rounded to roughly city scale (~11 km) and nothing else — no identifiers, no account, no cookies, no advertising IDs. Open-Meteo’s own privacy policy applies to that request. If you deny the location permission, the app makes no network requests at all and remains fully playable offline.
3. Sharing features (always your action)
- Share cards: creating a share image and sending it through your device’s share sheet is entirely user-initiated. Share cards never include coordinates.
- Spirit tether (QR): showing a QR code to another player transfers a fictional game entity directly between the two phones via the camera. No network is involved, and no personal information is contained in the code.
4. Data storage and deletion
All game data — your journal, settings, and world history — lives in the app’s private storage on your device. You are in full control:
- Deleting a journal entry also deletes its stored thumbnail.
- Settings → Purge Archive removes all journal entries and their images.
- Uninstalling the app removes everything. There is nothing to delete on any server, because nothing was ever sent to one.
See the Data Deletion page for step-by-step instructions.
5. Children
Spectral Vision presents mild spooky themes — fictional ghosts, ominous text and sounds — and is intended for a general audience (ages 7+) comfortable with that tone. It contains no chat with other users, no advertising, no purchases, and no data collection.
6. Security
The single network request the app can make uses HTTPS (encrypted in transit). Everything else never leaves your device, which is the strongest security promise an app can make.
7. Changes to this policy
If a future version of Spectral Vision adds any online feature, this policy will be updated before that version ships, the effective date above will change, and the change will be noted in the app’s release notes.
